In 1913 women could finally vote in Norway. It had been a struggle and not without a fight. At the time the whispers said – if women takes part in politics the children will starve and the society will fall apart. It was also perceived that all women would vote «red» giving the socialist wing an unfair advantage. We now know this not to be true. It goes without saying that it is not so. We know that now.
We thank our sisters in long skirts who stood up for our right to vote, to participate in legislation and be full members in the society securing the first step towards equality.
Stigma and prejudice –
Our society is in constant change but oh so slowly due to stigma and prejudice not taking knowledge and science into account. We tend to vote with our feelings, take actions based on what we have been taught and keep laws based on how we think a society should be.
